What a Girl Wants
Young Daphne lives with her musician mum in New York. When she finishes school she goes in search of her father – the dashing Lord Dashwood in London. He has no idea he has a teenage daughter.
Daphne shakes up the English aristocracy with her brash American teenage antics. But lacking the appropriate ‘codes of behaviour’ ends up getting her father into trouble. Henry is running for a seat in parliament and Daphne threatens to upturn his life. But maybe he needs to upturn his life to see what he’s missing out on. Will Henry have the strength to fight for his happiness, and does that involve Daphne’s mother, the real love of his life.
This was a terrific young person’s film. There are obvious characterisations of good and evil, and although disney-predictable, it was still quite cute. Romance blossoms for Daphne, as well as for her mother, in a very grande finale. Most suitable for tweens and their mothers.
