Jenna is a waitress and maker of fine pies in a diner in the deep south of the USA. She gets pregnant, but wants to leave her horrid, controlling brute of a husband, Earl. She can’t leave Earl without money, so plans to enter and win a big pie making contest.
During her pregnancy, Jenna falls in love with her married doctor, Jim. She’s finally happy, but is in an impossible situation. How can she ever leave Earl, will she get to the pie contest, how will she survive with a baby on her own, and what will she do about Jim?
This isn’t a bad little flick. The characters are well thought out and executed, and the story moves at an easy pace.
The emotional and physical violence, however, somewhat disturbed me and made my viewing experience a little less pleasurable – I seemed to be quite tense throughout, perhaps expecting the worst to happen.
As I said, not a bad rom com, not a lot of humour, but it wraps up nicely in the end.
