Alex Hitchens, Hitch, runs a very successful business as the ‘date doctor’. He helps men get the first three dates with the women they desire, following a very specific set of dating rules. After three dates, they are on their own to fall in love. He helps a sweet accountant called Albert to get a date with a very rich, famous socialite, Allegra Cole.
Sara is a gossip columnist who is trying to find out who this Albert person is. How can some-one like Albert date some-one like Allegra? It must be because of the date doctor. She meets Hitch but doesn’t know what he does for a living or how he helped Albert. They fall in love but when she finds out about the date doctor business, she will undoubtedly ditch Hitch.
The women think the date doctor helps men deceive women. But the men want help from the date doctor because women make it so hard to approach them. Is it so hard to approach women? This makes it seems like it’s our fault that men can’t find relationships (??!!).
Nevertheless, I found this movie very enjoyable. Will Smith as Hitch was just so easy to watch and he fits in very well as a rom com actor. Mendes, likewise, did a great job as Sara. There are a number of ‘boy meets girl’ scenarios in this flick, and a lot of happy endings. Although it’s not an overly fantastic film to write home about, and not comedically clever in any way, I still reckon it is one of the best rom coms in the bunch.
