I Give it a Year
Nat (Byrne) and Josh (Spall) get married, but something wasn’t quite right then and isn’t quite right now. Her sister quite rightly said at the wedding “I give it a year”.
Nat meets Guy (Baker) and doesn’t tell him that she’s married. He is a suave, rich, successful businessman – everything that Josh is not. They are attracted to each other and even when Guy finds out that Nat is married, he still wants to pursue her.
At the same time, Josh is struggling with feelings for his ex-girlfriend, Chloe (Faris). So Josh fixes Chloe up with Guy, and the four of them go out together. It is clear that they are with the wrong people. But will they work it out and swap partners?
Good performances from Byrne, Farris and Driver. Spall provided most of the comedy, as well as Olivia Colman. Josh’s best friend was a disaster – he was so crass that he nearly ruined the film for me, it was too over the top and should have been cut.
This is not a stand out film, despite the great actors. I was expecting a lot more and was pretty disappointed. But, saying that, it’s not a complete washout and still worth a look, particularly when paired with another movie for the night.
